Optimal Playable SettingsExplanation:
For each hardware configuration tested, the in-game parameters and control panel settings are varied to determine an optimal balance between image quality and performance. By default, the targeted average frame rate is 25 frames per second (FPS) with a minimum frame rate of no less than 10 FPS.
As a reference point, the optimal settings are compared with the default "out of the box" settings in terms of both image quality (via screenshots) and performance (via graphs).
Example:
Screenshot 1 shows a capture of Supreme Commander running on a GeForce 8800 GTX at the default settings initialized during the setup of the game.
Screenshot 2 shows the same environment at a higher resolution with enhanced textures and shadow maps. These enhancements improve the overall picture quality by providing a sharper and more detailed image without sacrificing image quality and performance. Although difficult to see with reduced website images, the real-world visual improvements are noticeable to the average player.
Figure 1 shows how the game parameters were changed between the "default" settings and the NVIDIA optimal settings.
Figure 2 shows test sample data that illustrates despite the higher resolution and enhanced feature levels, an average of 30 FPS is maintained thus providing an overall better experience for the player.
