The games industry’s biggest event of the year is here!

NVIDIA will be at this week’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) to showcase the all-new GeForce™ 6 Series of graphics processing units (GPU).  More than 500 GeForce 6800 GPUs will be used by over 30 game developers and publishers to showcase their games at the show, demonstrating a groundswell of support for the revolutionary GPUs.

Graphics to Drench the Senses

The NVIDIA booth (South Hall – 324) will showcase the GeForce 6 Series with an exciting display of technology demonstrations and an impressive collection of the newest PC games.   Introduced last month, the GeForce 6 Series has received industry accolades and support as the best-in-class graphics hardware platform designed to unleash new levels of creative freedom in real-time 3D game development.  Featuring full support for Microsoft® DirectX® 9.0 and the Shader Model 3.0 specification, the GeForce 6 Series opens up limitless possibilities for developers looking to create much more immersive and lifelike interactive 3D worlds and characters—all rendered in real time. A stunning example of this is Unreal® Engine 3 from Epic Games, which will be shown exclusively at the NVIDIA booth in a special theater every 15 minutes.

NVIDIA will also team up with Academy-award winning Jim Henson’s Creature Shop to showcase “Dawn,” the world’s most detailed real-time, 3D human character at the show.  Brought to life with cutting-edge puppetry techniques borrowed from the film world, the demonstration adds a new dimension to the capabilities of computer-generated characters.  “Dawn” will be interacting with show attendees daily.

Fun and Games

2004 marks another exciting year for PC gaming and NVIDIA has assembled an impressive collection of more than 45 top games from major game publishers to showcase in its booth.

"For gamers, 2004 is really the year of the PC,” said David Roman, vice president of corporate marketing at NVIDIA.  “The groundswell of support from game publishers and developers for the GeForce 6800 is further proof that the PC is alive and kicking as a gaming machine.  It’s exciting for us to be able to assemble a collection of the top games of the show under the NVIDIA brand, and even more exciting to know that gamers will soon get to experience these games on top-performing GeForce 6 GPUs.”

Games to be shown in the NVIDIA booth include:

Each title featured in the NVIDIA booth is part of a growing catalog of PC games that carry the NVIDIA “The Way It’s Meant to Be Played” seal.  Representing a commitment to take to out-box compatibility, smooth performance and stunning visuals, the seal has been featured on more than 200 PC games to date.

The Wireless Gaming Trend

According to a recent study by the Yankee Group, more than three quarters of the 82 million PC and console gamers in the US own a mobile phone, with 76-percent of them using the device to play a game.   Over the coming years, games for mobile phones is expected to represent a growing percentage of the billion-dollar games industry.  To support this trend, NVIDIA has introduced the GoForce 3D technology – a key driver of visual experiences on cell phones and other handheld devices.  At E3, NVIDIA will demonstrate GoForce technology to present a glimpse of what lies ahead for 3D gaming on mobile devices.
