NVIDIA Demo: Clear Sailing—Making Of
NVIDIA Organizes a Demonstration: The GeForce 6800 Sessions
Part I: Clear Sailing     [also see Part II: Nalu and Part III: Timbury]

NVIDIA invites you to take a peek into the construction of its latest product demonstrations, which illustrate the features of the new NVIDIA® GeForce™ 6800 graphics processing units (GPUs).

This is the first article in a three-part series, detailing the time, effort, creativity and—most of all—the engineering that went into the making of the demo Clear Sailing.
The boat cut majestically through the roiling waters, its sun- and salt-stained sails billowing and snapping with each gust. Before setting sail, on a beautiful day, its crew prepared, with a light fog adding to a postcard-like vista. Once out on the ocean, the air was also clouded by the fine mist that flew off the bubbly tips of each wave, and as the water smacked loudly against the side of the ship. Only the captain knew where the voyage would lead him and his band of buccaneers. Would they find treasure? Would they face off against another ship, the air sliced by the blast of gun powder and a volley of cannon balls?

It’s a vivid scene, one that almost brings the smell of salt air to your nostrils, but the boat and its surroundings don’t exist on any of our Seven Seas. Instead, this virtual world was built by NVIDIA’s demo team as a way to show off the company’s new GeForce 6800 GPU.
